Even with all the rain that pounded the Northcoast this past week, the Smith came back into shape on Friday. The river was at 12 ft. on the lower gauge at the end of the day, so Saturday the river should've been just about perfect. I had 2 locals in my boat on Saturday and when we put in, the river was at 11 ft. and on a slight decline. Within minutes after putting in, we hooked and landed a beautiful 18 lb. buck and saw several more fish roll in front of us. I thought we may be in for a fantastic day. We landed our second fish at Douglas park, a chrome 9 lb. wild hen that we photographed and released. Then the rains came and we managed only one more hook-up. In talking to some of the other guides on the river, 2-3 fish seemed to be the norm for the day. Sunday was a different story. I fished with a single and it was all we could do to get a couple bites. It sounded like it was a tough day for everyone on the river. I still have open days through the end of the year and many throughout the steelhead season, so give me a call and let's go fishing. FISH ON! Patrick- |
