Winter steelhead starting to show!
Thursday, 06 December 2007

The fishing has been real slow the past couple weeks, with guides having to work extra hard for a couple bites a day. It sounds like the kings have moved on up through the Smith and with the latest storms, the winter steelhead are starting to show. It rained pretty hard here most of the day but the forecast is for the rain to taper off through the weekend. Both the Smith and the Chetco should be in good shape. The Mad, Eel, and Klamath are probably blown out and won't fish until late next week at the earliest. Call me if you want to book a trip for the upcoming winter steelhead runs on the Smith, Chetco, and coastal rivers.

Smith River - November 21st
Friday, 23 November 2007

With the conditions just about perfect, I though we were in for a great day. But it just didn't turn out that way. We started the morning on the lower river and never got a bump and there were no signs of fishing moving. After that drift we launched at the forks and drifted to Ruby with almost the same results. We did manage to land a jack, but that was it for the day. Everyone I talked to had the same type of day. Some boats had 1 fish, but the majority got skunked.

Still time left in the season for Smith River Kings. Call me and let's go fishing.

Smith River - November 18th
Monday, 19 November 2007
The Smith river was a little on the high side when we started out this morning with about a foot of visiblity. It didn't rain much overnight and we were hoping to catch the river on the downswing, but mother nature had a different plan. After putting in and drifting for a couple of hours, the downpour started and the river rose dramatically, going from 11.5 ft. to 13.5 ft. With no takedowns and hardly any signs of fish moving up, we decided to make a short day of it and head south to check out the Eel River. After a few phone calls to check the weather, we finally put the boat in on the lower Eel at 2:30 p.m. We drifted a few holes and ended up with 4 salmon and 1 steelhead landed. Looks like a few fish are holding in the lower Eel and with the next rain they should be on the move again.
I'll be on the Smith again on Wednesday, and still have a few dates open if you want to catch some Smith Kings.

Smith River - November 14th
Friday, 16 November 2007

Today I fished the Smith where I thought I might find some fresh fish. In hindsight, I was a day late on that part of the river, as I heard reports that the middle section was the hot spot. We still ended up going 1 for 1, landing a chrome-brite 30lb hen near the takeout. By the end of the day, the water was already starting to clear, so again we're in need of more rain. The forecast calls for off and on rain all weekend, so hopefully fishing will continue to improve. The Smith should be good for the next few weeks as long as we keep getting rain. The Eel, Mad, and Redwood Creek are now all open to fishing with the last rain. I went out to the estauary on the Eel this past week and didn't see any signs of fish moving in, however I did hear that salmon were holding up downriver from the forks. I have some dates available in the coming weeks, call me and let's go fishing!

Trinity River - November 4th
Tuesday, 13 November 2007

I fished the lower Trinity today with a couple of friends and had a pretty good day. We ended up with 5 slamon to 13 lbs. and 2 hatchery steelhead, including a bright 10lb hatchery hen. The fish are starting to move up river now and with the next big rain, I'll be switching over to the Smith River chasing those big king salmon. Let's go fishing!

Trinity River - October 4th
Thursday, 04 October 2007

Hello fisherman and women,

Here's a run down of what's happening on the Trinity.  There are plenty of Steelhead in the system and the bite is good.  The water is clear so these fish are a little spooky.  As for Salmon there's not alot of action, but this should change as more fish move up river from the Klamath. Check out the pics from some of my latest trips in the Trinity gallery.

I am getting married this weekend and will be spending time with my wife until Oct. 18th.  If your interested in catching Salmon and Steelhead on the Trinity in late Oct. give me a call.  The best way to reach is my cell phone.  (707) 616-3716
